Devbagh Beach Resort: An Island Beach Resort at Your Reach

Think about spending a weekend in an island beach resort with the never ending blue waters staring at you all the time. No, we’re not asking you to pack your bags for a weekend in the islands of Indonesia. Just about 2 hours from the south of Goa is Devbagh, an island off Karwar. Embraced by Western Ghats on one side and the blue waters of Arabian Sea on the other, Devbagh is a seat of calm and greenery all around. The secluded island with its well-preserved ecology makes a great place for natural exploration and adventure activities, not to mention the fresh seafood at your disposal, straight from the fisherman’s daily catch.

Activities: There will Never be a Dull Moment in Devbagh Beach Resort

For the adventurer in you: The inviting beach itself is enough to generate a feeling of excitement for thrill seekers. To add to the excitement, there are several activities that will push your adventurous self to the limit. Snorkeling, parasailing, banana boat rides, kayaking, speedboat rides, and high-speed water scooters are just some of them. Rookie water sport enthusiasts have nothing to worry as instructors will always be there to help you enjoy the adventures safely. You can even enjoy crab hunting on the beach.

For a laid back holiday: For the more spiritually inclined individuals, Devbagh offers ample avenues to sit back and unwind peacefully. From well-placed hammocks that offer you a serene view of the large expanse of water to bird watching in the huge mangroves, Devbagh will keep your spirits engaged. Venture out into the open in the dark and your luck might introduce you to a pack of jackals and crawling crabs on the beach. There is hardly anything more relaxing in this world than angling for fish. We get you in touch with local fishermen to try your hand at fishing. Enjoy this calm experience through a two-man dugout. There is also an Ayurveda Center that offers heavenly massage to rejuvenate your senses.

For the kids: You will love seeing your kids jump with joy as they collect pebbles and build sand castles. Just running around in the green surroundings and vast expanse of sands can be a great experience for your kids who are used to the concrete jungles of the city. There are several kid-friendly water activities too. Get them to watch the fishermen as they fling huge fishing nets in the dim sunlight. Your trip to the neighbouring islands might even afford you a chance encounter with the friendly dolphins of the area.

Season: The Best Time to Visit the Island Resort

Like the most of west coast of India, monsoon months are considered off-season. However, this season has its own benefits with less tourists and more greenery. October to March is considered the best season with the place bustling with fun activities around Christmas and New Year. The time from April to June is a bit humid, although still very congenial for your visit.

How To Reach

A land of converging landscapes, Karwar lies on a thin strip of tropical sand that is bound by the Western Ghats on its eastern side and embraced by the Arabian Sea on the west. On entering Karwar, one immediately comes face to face with the sea dotted with several small islands on the horizon. Distinct amongst them, about 3 km away, is Devbagh - the start of your love affair with coastal Karnataka. A boat ride takes you to the pristine stretch of white sand, kissed by the blue waters of the Arabian Sea.

Air? The closest airport is Dabolim Airport (Goa), from which you can take a taxi. Devbagh is just about 2 ½ hours away.

By Train? Karwar is connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Mangalore, Cochin and other important places through the Konkan Railway. Express trains do not stop at Karwar; so one has to alight at Madgaon (Goa) or at Ankola and then reach Karwar by road. However, there are quite a few slower trains that stop at Karwar. The journey between Mangalore & Karwar takes not more than 4 hours. Visitors from Chennai can enter via Mangalore. Log onto irctc.com for more information. Travellers from Bangalore and Hyderabad should get off at Hubli and proceed by road to Karwar. The road between Hubli & Karwar, is one of the best in Karnataka and passes through thick jungles.

By Bus? Overnight deluxe bus services are available from Bangalore. Buses also ply between Madgaon and Karwar at regular intervals.
