K Gudi Wilderness Camp - K Gudi Wilderness Camp is a collage of wild and the hills. Located in the Biligiri Rangana Hills (BR Hills) and set 3500 ft above sea level, the hills are interspersed with valleys, streams and places of breathtaking scenic beauty. The Biligiri Rangana Temple (BRT) Wildlife Sanctuary is a habitat for a variety of wild animals and birds. Nestled between the Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats, the B.R.T Wildlife Sanctuary acts as the natural bridge between these two eco systems. India’s most wanted brigand Veerappan once used to roam into these forests.

K Gudi Wilderness Camp takes pride in its rich wildlife. The deciduous, evergreen and grassland vegetation is a safe haven for a variety of species. Commonly sighted animals are gaurs, spotted deer; wildboar and elephants .You can even spot leopards and sloth bears. If you are lucky, you can see the majestic tiger. The sanctuary is home to more than 270 species of birds, including the scarlet minivet, velvet-fronted nuthatch, gold - fronted chloropsis, lorikeet, and malabar whistling thrush.

Set out for a thrilling jeep safari into the Biligiri Rangana Temple Wildlife Sanctuary accompanied by well-trained naturalists. The naturalists will interpret the sights and sounds of the forests to help you understand the nature surrounding you. Trekking inside the Sanctuary is another exciting way to be familiar with nature. Guided by local naturalists, you can follow trails, which lead all the way up to the peaks of nearby hills. The views from a top the hill are amazing with misty mountains and greenery spread out for miles.

On the hilltop in the northwestern part of the Sanctuary, is the temple of Rangaswamy (Lord Vishnu), which has been a pilgrimage center for over 500 years. A visit to V.G.K.K-vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra, an NGO working amongst the local Soliga tribes will give you exposure to the cultural background of the BR Hills along with an opportunity to buy locally made products.

In the evenings, after a wildlife movie, you can warm yourself around a campfire and listen to the tales of the jungle told by naturalists and other guests, or share your exciting wildlife tales with them.

Accommodations are completely in tune with the environment. Guests can stay in any of the eight twin-bedded tented cottages (with attached baths) and three log cabins on stilts. One can gaze across the distant hills and green valleys bellow and hear the calls of the wild from the tents and log cabins. There are also two spacious rooms in the Maharaja’s Hunting Lodge for large groups.

At K. Gudi, the chirping of birds will awaken you in the morning. Nights lit by hurricane lamp add to the perfect jungle setting.

BR Hills is located in a rain shadow area and receives its share of showers when the monsoon recedes during October and November. June through September are usually the wet months along the Western Ghats. That’s the best time to visit the camp, as the BR Hills wears a very pleasant and green look during that time. During summer (April to mid-June), K Gudi Wilderness Camp is also a wonderful retreat from the heat of the plains. BR Hills offers a salubrious climate during the rest of the year, as well.
