Summary

Situated on the river Tungabhadra, Hampi embodies the historic might and glory of the Vijayanagar Empire. The centuries old ruins and temples at this site silently speak of the exquisite prowess that the Vijayanagar kingdom had reached in terms of science, culture and art. The numerous temple complexes adorning this medieval township, of which the Virupaksha and Vittala temples are the most fascinating with their elaborate stone chariots and musical pillars, are simply one aspect of its wonder.

At a short distance of 15 km from Hampi, there is the Daroji Sloth Bear Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to a sizeable population of the Indian sloth bear. The uneven landscape provides the best environment for the sloth bears as they often take shelter in the caves here and venture out to feed on ants, termites, fruits and honey.

The Sloth Bear Resort adjacent to the Daroji Sanctuary is nestled in this ragged terrain. Between the medieval ruins of Hampi and the natural wonder of Daroji, one can experience an exhilarating mix of awe and adventure at the resort.

Historic Spots

Our resort is the perfect base camp to explore the nearby regions of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Hampi. On the whole, the heritage site is classified into our areas: the Sacred Center, the Royal Center, the Urban Core, and finally, the Suburban Sires. Moreover, the UNESCO heritage site at Pattadakal, Aihole and Badami are also within a day’s tour from the resort.

The legendary Kishkinda of the Ramayana is identified with the village of Anegundi, right across the Tungabhadra near Hampi. This village survived the ravages of time and is replete with archaic houses, canal networks for paddy irrigation, and a host population that is well-known for its hospitality, warmth and local folktales.

Board And Lodge

The 33-acre spread of the resort offers twenty cottages with twin-beds and a host of modern amenities. Besides the air-conditioning and the spacious royal baths, each cottage has a sit-out area that offers a breathtaking panorama of the rocky hillsides at sunset.

These thatched roofed cottages cool down the rooms inside and blend in with the surroundings effortlessly. The resort also shares a border with the Daroji Sanctuary next to it. The proprietors constantly strive to preserve the natural growth of scrubs and small plants in the campus along with the grasslands that draw in a variety of birds to the area.

Services Offered

The resort has several experienced local guides that offer tours to Hampi for our guests. For those who prefer to go out on their own, the front desk provides maps, bicycles and guidebooks on request. The cycling/jogging track that runs along the border of the property is also accessible by all guests at all times.

The in-house restaurant offers a choice of the best continental, Chinese and Indian dishes a’ la carte. The restaurant, along with its bar, is open for all.
