Say ‘Hello’ to the feisty River Sharavathi!

The majestic Sahyadri mountain ranges are sure to leave you spellbound! River Sharavathi, which originates and flows entirely within the state of Karnataka in India, flows through only two districts — Shimoga and Uttara Kannada — before joining the Arabian Sea. Teeming with natural beauty, Sharavathi Adventure Camp, with its verdant valleys, gushing rivers, and a dense forest cover, is a treasure trove of rare flora and fauna.

The Sharavathi Adventure Camp is a haven for those seeking peace and tranquillity by virtue of its ideal location to experience the quintessential magic of the monsoons. During nature walks, amidst bird songs, you get to savour the pristine calm of the wilderness.

Located at less than 6 KM from the famous Jog Falls, Sharavathi Adventure Camp combines the magnificence of the plush mountains with a dash of adventure. Tucked away on the slopes of a hillock skirting the Talakalale Reservoir, this resort is a great place to be in awe of Mother Nature. The River Sharavathi plummets from a dizzying height of 830 feet, creating the Jog Falls, one of India’s tallest waterfalls. The rainy season is the best time to view Jog Falls when it gushes down as four distinct cascades – Raja, Rani, Rocket, and Roarer.

The Sharavathi Adventure camp has twenty spacious and comfortable cottages. The cottages are climate-proof, with tiled roofs and an intelligently designed two-walled interior – an inner brick wall with an outer laterite stone wall helps regulate the temperature of the interiors to keep them warm and cosy. All the cottages overlook the Talakalale Reservoir and offer beautiful vistas.

Spacious cottages ensure you have a comfortable stay in the wilderness. All the cottages overlook the Talakalale Balancing Reservoir and offer beautiful vistas of the islands that dot the reservoir. Of course, all your comforts are taken care of.

The Sharavathi Adventure Camp offers a delectable buffet of primarily Sothern Indian food for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Our skilled culinary experts are always willing to tickle your taste buds anytime as per your preferences with customization options.

Water-based Activities in the Sharavathi River: Boating, Kayaking, and Coracle Rides are experiences worth indulging in here. With qualified personnel and safety gear to protect you, there’s no stopping you!

Guided Trekking and Nature Walks: At Sharavathi Adventure Camp, you also get guided tours through the wild with all safety precautions taken. The Jungle treks and nature walks that you take will be cherished forever.

Bird Watching and Wildlife Spotting at the Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary: The resort and the surrounding islands attract a wide variety of winged visitors. Several varieties of butterflies can also be found in the vicinity of the resort. Mammals like the Black-naped Hare, Common Langurs, and Malabar Giant Squirrel are also spotted occasionally.

  • Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Shimoga district in the Western Ghats, and spread over 431 SqKm is a must-visit.
  • Linganamakki dam stretching 2.74 KM across the Sharavathi River is a popular tourist attraction around here.
  • Another tourist hotspot is Unchalli Falls, also known as Lushington Falls, which is a waterfall created by a 116-metre (381 ft) drop in the Aghanashiniriver.
  • In case you plan your visit in winter or early summer, do plan a trip to Burude falls in Karwar. For the pious visitors, a trip to Sigandur village is a must-do.
  • Shree Choudeshwari Temple is named Sigandur, and Mother Choudeshwari is called ‘Sigandureshwari’; built in the 18th century, Shri Choudamma Devi is said to have the strength to protect pilgrims from thieves.

Depending on the purpose of your visit, Sharavathi Adventure Camp is suitable for travel all year round.

Monsoon - June to November: This is the monsoon season and since the place receives plenty of rainfall, it is ideal for nature lovers to unwind quietly and revel in the glory of Jog Falls.

Winter - December to February: Cool climes welcome you during this period as the forest is lush green after the monsoon season. This is an ideal time for water-based activities.

Summer - March to May: A great time to beat the heat in the forests adjoining the area.

We were also impressed with the way Govt. of Karnataka is taking measures to retain and maintain the forests of Dandeli. The food was good too. The activities were also timed well and the staff is also well trained. We also thought the karwar location is perfect and the activities there were fun too..!! Also the food was good.
