Located amongst lush green and the serene river, Kabini River Lodge will lure your senses, promising a holiday experience that you will always cherish. Once hunting lodge of the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore, Kabini river lodge is among the top five wildlife resorts in the world, as per the British Tatler Travel Guide (1995).
History
Once there was a Maharaja in Mysore who loved the outdoors. His kingdom eventually spread over beautiful countryside, jungles teeming with wildlife. The flowing river kept everything lush and green and flourishing. And he loved the environs so much that he built a hunting lodge by the banks of Kabini, a tributary of the Kaveri. His guests and travelers from all over the world stayed there.
Thus, Kabini became quite popular. It also became the headquarters of the world famous kheddah (the corralling of wild elephants for domestication in the Royal stables and for agriculture, held every three or four years by the Maharaja and his descendants till 1971).
Even today the lush forest around Kabini remains unspoilt. People still come from all over the world to enjoy its richness and diversity of its flora and fauna.
Season
Kabini River Lodge offers you a great vacation amid nature all through the year. During the dry season (Feb, March and April), most of the elephants of the surrounding forests converge at Kabini exhibiting one of the world’s largest congregations of Asiatic wild elephants. The rainy season (July, August and September) is the ideal time to enjoy lush greenery there.
Activities
Knowing wildlife can’t get more exciting than this. All you need to do is to start for a safari on jeeps /vans into the famed Nagarahole National Park .A boat ride on the River Kabini will take you closer to wild animals gathering on the banks in the evening.
The morning jungle ride includes a coracle ride to watch birds and a brief elephant ride at the Sunkadakatte Elephnat Camp. You can spend the evening watching movies on wildlife in the audio-visual hall. A campfire at the Ghol Ghor in the night will keep your excitement going till you retire to bed.
Conference / Meetings
Apart from a natural wildlife habitat, Kabini River Lodge is the ideal location for important seminars, meetings or conference. The large room in the Viceroy’s bungalow makes it an ideal venue for uninterrupted business meetings in a natural ambience. The meet can be scheduled between 9.00am and 4.00 pm and followed by a wildlife tour. Along with the conference room, the Viceroy’s building also has a well equipped bar.
